Instrument Cluster Failure. While driving today around 2000 hrs the Instrument Cluster of my 2005 Swift Vxi had a total failure. The Speedo, Odo, Tacho, Fuel and temp meters went to zero. Before this I felt some kind of smell, not any burning one, and ibefore I could look around noticed the above failure. Pulled up and switched off the engine.

Posted November 26, 2012. There was a known problem on clusters where condensation formed on the boards and caused shorting, this sounds like the same problem. Usual short term fix was spraying the cluster with WD40 and putting it somewhere dry for a couple of days to get all the condensation out. 5. Install the new instrument cluster in the reverse order of removal. Torx bits are needed to tight the screws. 6. Reconnect the negative battery cable. 7. Start the vehicle and test the new instrument cluster. 8. If everything is working properly, replace the instrument cluster bezel and screw it in place. The instrument cluster on a Fiesta of this age is part of the immobiliser system, until the immobiliser is reprogrammed using Ford IDS or an equivalent diagnostic tool the engine won't start. The old cluster is still recognised as valid by the immobiliser hence the car starts with that back in. HaSGNbd.
